Video Goals: Arsenal 4-0 Aston Villa

By on 15th May 2016

Olivier Giroud bagged a hat-trick as Arsenal thrashed relegated Aston Villa 4-0 at the Emirates on the final day of the 2015-16 Premier League season.

The result means the Gunners dramatically overtake their rivals Tottenham Hotspur to finish as runners-up after Spurs were blown away 5-1 at 10-man, relegated Newcastle.

Arsenal started the game brightly and opened the scoring as early as the 5th minute when Olivier Giroud headed home Nacho Monreal’s left wing cross.

Despite dominating the game and holding the visitors to few opportunities, it wasn’t until the 79th minute that Arsenal sealed the three points to move them into second position.  Giroud again, powering home his second before the French international completed his hat-trick moments later by finishing from close range following a pass ball from Hector Bellerin.

The day was complete when Mikel Arteta came off the bench to add a fourth, although replays suggest it will go down as a Mark Bunn own goal.

This means Arsenal fans were able to celebrate St Totteringham’s Day for a 21st consecutive season.
