Highlights: Emmen 2-5 Ajax

By on 4th April 2019

Ajax have moved to the summit of the Dutch Eredivisie with a convincing 5-2 win at Emmen on Saturday, ahead of PSV Eindhoven’s game in hand on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag’s side closed the gap to two points with a 3-1 win against their rivals last weekend despite being reduced to 10 men shortly before the hour.

It took the visitors just nine minutes to take the lead at the De Oude Meerdijk on Saturday through Donny van de Beek before Daley Blind doubled Ajax’s lead shortly before half-time.

Fans were in for a goal fest in the second 45 minutes as David Neres scored a brace either side of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s strike in the space of ten minutes before the hour mark to give Ajax an unassailable 5-0 lead.

Emmen pulled one back moments later, courtesy of a Nicolas Tagliafico own goal before Jafar Arias made the scoreline somewhat more respectable shortly before full-time.
