Highlights: Tottenham 1-0 Man City

By on 9th April 2019

Tottenham Hotspur pulled off a huge shock in their new stadium on Tuesday night as they beat Premier League leaders Manchester City 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Heung-min Son’s solo effort on 78 minutes, powering the ball below Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, proved to be the only goal of the first leg.

Manchester City had been awarded a controversial penalty early in the first half when VAR adjudged Danny Rose to have deliberately handled the ball inside the penalty area.

Sergio Aguero saw his tame effort saved by Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

This was only Tottenham’s second-ever game at their new stadium following their 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League last week, in which Son scored the opening goal of that game too.

Manchester City had been overwhelming favourites heading into the tie but now have it all to do in the second leg at the Etihad Stadium next Wednesday. Pep Guardiola’s side are in action at Crystal Palace before that, in the Premier League, on Sunday.
