By on 28th April 2019

Derby County pulled off a massive win at Bristol City to give them a chance of finishing in the Championship playoff positions at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

Frank Lampard’s side were on the back foot for large parts of the game and took the lead against the run of play when Tom Lawrence’s effort from 16 yards deflected into the far corner on 18 minutes.

Bristol City were reduced to 10 men for the final half hour when Antoine Semenyo’s poor tackle on Tom Huddlestone was deemed to be reckless.

The hosts saw Jamie Paterson denied three times in the first half by Derby goalkeeper Kelle Roos and the Dutch shot stopper was called into action again just before half-time to deny Josh Browhill’s powerful effort.

Teenage right-back Jayden Bogle secured a valuable three points for the Rams on 77 minutes when he joined Mason Bennett on a counter-attack before rifling the ball into the top of the Bristol City net.

Victory leaves Derby County in the sixth and final playoff spot, ahead of Middlesbrough on goal difference and now four points ahead of Bristol City. The Rams go to Swansea City on Tuesday before hosting West Bromwich Albion on the final day of the season next Sunday.
