Highlights: Rangers 2-0 Aberdeen

By on 28th April 2019

Two James Tavernier penalties saw Rangers seal second place with a 2-0 win over Aberdeen at Ibrox on Sunday.

The win saw the Glasgow club extend their lead over the Dons in third place to 11 points with three games to play.

Tavernier’s penalties came in the 48th and 80th minutes, with Aberdeen’s Andrew Considine sent off in conceding the second spot kick.

Rangers striker Jermain Defoe managed to escape any action from the referee for leading with his arm in a challenge with goalkeeper Joe Lewis in the first half of a controversial game.

This was Steven Gerrard’s first win in four attempts against Aberdeen in Glasgow this season. Both teams are on course for qualification for next season’s Europa League first qualifying round, though Aberdeen’s lead over Kilmarnock only stands at three points. It’s the first time Aberdeen will not finish runners-up for five seasons.
