Highlights: Eibar 2-2 Barcelona

By on 19th May 2019

Lionel Messi scored twice in two minutes as 2018-19 champions Barcelona were held 2-2 at Eibar in the final La Liga game of the season.

The home side had taken the lead through Marc Cucurella, on loan from Barcelona, in the 20th minute when his low shot beat Jasper Cillessen. The Dutch goalkeeper, who is expected to leave Camp Nou this summer, started the final three games of the season for Ernesto Valverde’s side.

Messi equalised on half hour, from a tight angle, before clipping his second past Marco Dmitrovic just moments later.

Eibar went into the break at 2-2 thanks to Pablo de Blasis’ superb 20-yard strike in the final minute of the first half.

There few efforts on goal in the second half, though Messi missed a good opportunity to complete his hat-trick late on when he fired over from 15 yards.

Barcelona finish the season on 87 points, 11 ahead of second-placed Atletico Madrid, and have one more game left of this campaign – next Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against Valencia in Seville.
