Real Madrid ended their 2018-19 La Liga campaign with back-to-back defeats as they finished in third place, 19 points behind champions Barcelona – their lowest tally since 2001-02.

The visitors, in front of just 57,000 fans at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Sunday scored two goals in the final half hour to secure three points that see Real Betis leapfrog Alaves to finish 10th.

Loron Moron (61′) and Jese (75′) scored the goals for Betis as Zinedine Zidane will be left with a lot of rebuilding to do over the summer. The world football giants have already been linked with Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and have agreed deals for Eder Militao from FC Porto and Brazilian teenager Rodrygo Goes from Santos as they look to try wrestle the title off Barcelona next season.

This latest defeat was Real Madrid’s 12th in the league this season – the first time they have suffered this many since their 1998-99 campaign.
