By on 10th August 2019

Manchester City began the defence of their Premier League crown with an emphatic 5-0 thrashing of West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

After the hosts saw some possession in the final third, Pep Guardiola’s side started to take control of the game before opening the scoring with a fine first time finish from Gabriel Jesus from close range.

City dominated the game from here on out, but didn’t double their lead until five minutes into the second half, through Raheem Sterling. The England international added his second 15 minutes from time before substitute Sergio Aguero was handed the spot kick duties in the final five minutes. The Argentine saw his first effort saved by Lukasz Fabianski before VAR intervened and ordered a retake as the Polish goalkeeper had both feet in front of the goalline. Aguero duly converted at the second time of asking.

There was still time for Sterling to complete his hat-trick in stoppage time.
