Highlights: Aston Villa 2-0 Everton

By on 23rd August 2019

Aston Villa picked up their first points of the 2019-20 Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win against Everton at Villa Park.

Wesley proved his doubters wrong with a well-timed run and finish to give the Villans a 21st minute lead. The Brazilian caught Michael Keane napping to latch onto Jota’s well-angled through ball before finishing across Jordan Pickford.

Everton created few chances themselves but Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed a sitter to equalise in the first half. Substitute Alex Iwobi hit the post in the second half and Theo Walcott volleyed over late on when it seemed easier to score.

The Villans sealed the three points in stoppage time through substitute Anwar El Ghazi. The Netherlands international only came on for the final 15 minutes but tore Seamus Coleman a good one before scoring with his third effort, tucking the ball under Jordan Pickford on a counter-attack.
