Highlights: Man Utd 1-2 Crystal Palace

By on 24th August 2019

Crystal Palace produced a shock at Old Trafford on Saturday as they beat Manchester United 2-1 to claim their first victory of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had started the season with a 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea and a creditable 1-1 draw away to Wolverhampton Wanderers before a performance that typified them of last season.

The visitors found themselves ahead just after the half hour mark when a routine clearance from Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita was flicked on by Jeffrey Schlupp to give Jordan Ayew a one-on-one. The Ghanaian striker coolly rolled the ball past David de Gea. Harry Maguire was caught completely out of position.

It took until the 58th minute before Manchester United fired their first shot on target. Marcus Rashford then struck the post from the penalty spot after Scott McTominay was tripped inside the area by Luka Milivojevic.

United finally equalised in the 89th minute when Daniel James curled a shot into the top corner of Guaita’s goal. Solskjaer’s side then bombed forward in search for a winner, but were caught out on the counter-attack.

Crystal Palace left-back Patrick van Aanholt scored in the third minute of stoppage time but David de Gea will be appalled with his attempt to keep the near post effort out.
