Highlights: Watford 1-3 West Ham

By on 24th August 2019

West Ham United picked up their first win of the season with a comfortable 3-1 win away to bottom of the league Watford.

The Hornets have started their 2019-20 Premier League campaign with three successive defeats as  pressure starts  to build on manager Javi Gracia.

West Ham took the lead through a Mark Noble penalty inside three minutes after Manuel Lanzini went down spectacularly inside the penalty area. The Hammers captain has now converted 22 of the 25 penalties in his taken in his Premier League career.

Gerard Deulofeu had an excellent opportunity to equalise shortly after for the hosts but fired against the crossbar from seven yards out. Watford did equalise on 17 minutes however when Andre Gray finished off a lovely move by firing low into the far corner of Lukasz Fabianski’s goal.

Felipe Anderson headed a corner against the post as the two teams went into the break all square.

£45 million summer signing Sebastien Haller scored his first goal for the club following his move from Eintracht Frankfurt by tapping home Anderson’s cross from close range just after the hour. The striker made an excellent run off the ball for the Brazilian to pick out.

The striker scored his second 10 minutes later, reacting quickly to rebound in Michail Antonio’s diving header from a corner that Ben Foster had tipped onto the crossbar.
