Frank Lampard’s Chelsea held on to a 2-1 victory at the KC Stadium to progress to the 2019-20 FA Cup fifth round on Saturday.

The Blues made a flying start to the game, going ahead as early as the sixth minute when Michy Batshuayi’s effort deflected past Hull City goalkeeper George Long.

Chelsea were well on top in the first half but failed to add a second before the break.

Although Lampard rotated much of his squad, there were a number of regulars in the starting XI – Kurt Zouma, Cesar Azpilicueta, Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount all named on the teamsheet.

Hull pressed for an equaliser in the second half as it looked as though Chelsea’s failure to score a second goal in the opening 45 minutes would come back to haunt them. However, they caught the Championship side out from a set piece with centre-back Fikayo Tomori heading in a second just after the hour mark.

Substitute Kamil Grosicki saw his direct free kick take a wicked deflection to beat Willy Caballero to reduce the score on 78 minutes. Chelsea spent the final quarter-of-an-hour hanging on before confirming their place on Monday night’s FA Cup draw.
