Manchester United answered any fears their fans had with a thumping 6-0 win at Prenton Park against Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemingly had doubts himself over his squad progressing by naming a number of regulars to face the League One strugglers – Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood all starting.

Tranmere, who only booked their place in this match on Thursday by beating Premier League side Watford in a replay, caused United’s defence a few problems in the opening 10 minutes.

Then, in their first attack,in the 10th minute, centre-back Maguire picked up a pass from Lindelof, dribbled to the edge of Rovers’ box and fired an unstoppable effort into the top corner.

The game was over within the next six minutes as Diogo Dalot and Jesse Lingard added further goals for the Red Devils. Phil Jones and Anthony Martial both scored in the final five minutes of the first half to send Solskjaer’s team into the break with a 5-0 lead.

Mason Greenwood scored a second half penalty as Manchester United cruised into Monday night’s draw for the FA Cup fifth round.
