Arsenal beat West Ham United 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday to keep their hopes of a top four finish alive.

The Gunners were below par on Saturday afternoon but snatched a winner 12 minutes from time through substitute Alexandre Lacazette. The goal was initially ruled out for offside before VAR interened.

Lacazette was on hand to score from close range after an unselfish header from Mesut Ozil across goal put the ball on a plate for him. The French striker had started the game among the substitutes with Eddie Nketiah being rewarded with a Premier League start following his impressive performance at Portsmouth in the FA Cup on Monday night.

Jarrod Bowen hit the face of the post, Sebastian Haller’s heavy touch denied him a one-on-one and Michail Antonio shinned wide from two yards in the first half as West Ham United were left wondering how they did not take the lead in this game. Aside from the goal, Sokratis’ bullet headed onto the top of the crossbar was the only other opportunity of note that Mikel Arteta’s side created.

Arsenal are now five points behind Chelsea in fourth, with the Blues hosting Everton on Sunday.
