Highlights: Watford 0-0 Spurs

Watford and Tottenham Hotspur split the points in a goalless draw at Vicarage Road in Saturday lunchtime’s Premier League kickoff.

In a game that lacked real quality, Nigel Pearson picked up another point to drag the Hornets further away from the relegation, with the former Leicester City boss taking 14 from a possible 21 since being appointed before Christmas.

Heung-min Son saw a deflected effort caught by an alert Ben Foster at his near post on half hour. Prior to that, Spurs had a soft shout for a penalty when the ball ricocheted into Craig Cathcart’s hand. VAR didn’t even both reviewing it.

Spurs’ best opportunity of the game fell to Lucas Moura in the final 10 minutes of the first half. Dele Alli played the Brazilian in down the right only to be denied one-on-one by an on rushing Foster in the Watford goal.

Watford improved during the second half and should have taken the lead themselves within two minutes of the restart when the ball fell kindly to Abdoulaye Doucoure inside the six-yard box but the midfielder fluffed his opportunity as the ball tamely rolled wide.

The home side were awarded a penalty midway through the second half when Jan Vertonghen’s hand got in the way of a powerful shot. However, the usually reliable Troy Deeney from the spot saw his effort comfortably saved by Paulo Gazzaniga.

Erik Lamela saw a scrambled effort cleared off the goalline in stoppage time.
