Highlights: RC Lens 1-0 PSG

By on 11th September 2020

Paris Saint-Germain’s opening game of the 2020-21 French Ligue 1 season started with a surprise 1-0 loss away to RC Lens on Thursday.

Ignatius Ganago scored the only goal of the game just before the hour, capitalising on Marcin Bulka’s pass to the young forward.

Ganago had earlier hit the outside of the post against his former club.

The defending champions were without a number of their Champions League starters from three weeks ago, with Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Angel Di Maria, Marquinhos and Keylor Navas all notable missing.

Layvin Kurzawa started the game at right-back and Thilo Kehrer at centre-back, though ultimately it was a howler from the goalkeeper that cost them a clean sheet and a point.

This was RC Lens’ second game of the season, having lost 2-1 away to Nice on 23 August, whilst PSG were given an additional break following their participation in the Champions League final over in Portugal.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have been hit with a COVID-19 outbreak within the camp and only have three days to prepare for the second game of the season when they host rivals Olympique Marseille at the Parc des Princes on Sunday night.
