Highlights: Brighton 1-3 Chelsea

By on 14th September 2020

Chelsea started their 2020-21 Premier League season with a victory away to Brighton & Hove Albion as a number of Frank Lampard’s big money signings made their debut.

Jorginho opened the scoring for the visitors from the penalty spot midway through the first half after Mat Ryan brought down Timo Werner inside the area. The goalkeeper escaped any punishment.

Leandro Trossard equalised 10 minutes after the break when his 20-yard effort across goal managed to squirm its way past Kepa Arrizabalaga in the Chelsea goal.

The Spaniard’s future at Stamford Bridge remains up in the air amid reports suggesting the Blues are on the verage of signing Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Brighton weren’t level for long as Reece James scored an early candidate for goal of the season with a 25-yard drive into the top corner to restore Chelsea’s lead.

Lewis Dunk missed a free header from a couple of yards out before Kurt Zouma’s volley from a corner deflected past Ryan to seal the three points for the West London club.
